Pathomorphological and bacteriological studies of Colibacillosis in a calf

Abstract

A 3 months old male calf was presented to the department of Veterinary Pathology for post mortem examination with the history of respiratory distress and diarrhoea. The carcass was severely dehydrated and mucous membrane was congested. Grossly, multiple abscesses were found in the lungs with congestion and hemorrhage in other visceral organs. Histopathologically, multiple suppurative foci, bronchopneumonia, haemorrhage and congestion was observed in the lungs. Liver section showed necrosis and degeneration of hepatocytes, infiltration of mononuclear cells in sinusoidal spaces and vascular changes. Necrosis and desquamation of intestinal epithelial lining, sub-serosal haemorrhages were recorded in the intestine. The case was confirmed as colibacillosis based on pathomorphological alterations and bacteriological examination.
