The main aim is to discuss various issues related to the timing, key elements and significance of environment in today's rapidly evolving era. The paper provides an overview of the work conducted on environment scanning, its impact, the major theories guiding research in this field and a summary of key findings from previous studies. It also provides suggestions for improving and effectively implementing environmental scanning. It emphasizes the need to adapt the internal environment in response to the external environment while exploring the idea of planning through environmental scanning. The articles are analysed to delineate influential aspects, themes and conceptual, intellectual and social structure of the knowledge base using different bibliometric techniques. The findings highlight the multi-disciplinary nature of the literature and theoretical foundation based on environment.
