Polishability of 3D printed temporary crown and bridge resin material manufactured by two different 3D printing systems: An in vitro study

Abstract

Context: 3D printing has emerged as an option to fabricate provisional restorations with new temporary crown and bridge materials. A smooth surface provisional restoration is necessary to reduce the biofilm adhesion. With the advent of different 3D printing techniques, studies on the polishability of 3D printed temporary crowns need to be assessed. Aims: The aim of this study was to evaluate and compare polishability of 3D printed temporary crown and bridge materials manufactured by two different 3D printing systems. Settings and Design: In vitro – Comparative study Methods and Material: A total of 60 Specimens were 3D printed from two different 3D printers, (LCD) - grouped as group 1 (n=30) and (DLP) - grouped as group 2 (n=30) using d tech 3D accuprint crown and bridge(C&B) resin material. All specimens underwent finishing and polishing process. Measurement of surface roughness was done using a Profilometer before and after polishing. The results obtained were statistically analysed. Statistical analysis used: Student t test was used to compare the means of surface roughness before and after polishing of group 1 and group 2 specimens. Results: The results showed that the two groups did not exhibit a statistically significant difference. Conclusion: Within the limitations of this in vitro study, it was concluded that there was no significant difference between the polishability by comparing both the groups.
