Full-mouth rehabilitation of generalized enamel hypoplasia in mixed dentition: A case report
Abstract
A quantitative defect in enamel synthesis is commonly known as Enamel Hypoplasia. EH can develop on any tooth or may involve multiple teeth. Due to reduction in the layers of the enamel, hypoplasia can appear white, yellow or brownish in colour and manifest as pits, grooves and fissures on the surface. Genetic factors and Several environmental influences operate at various times and for varying lengths of time interfere with tooth formation are thought to be responsible for EH. The most common cause of EH in a specific child is difficult to establish. Enamel hypoplasia makes tooth more plaque retentive and may lead to dental caries, also more sensitive to acid decomposition than normal sound enamel. Enamel defects are a common concern in pediatric dentistry, often leading to significant discomfort due to both their aesthetic impact and functional limitations, ultimately affecting overall oral health. The primary goal of management is to preserve the remaining tooth structure while restoring optimal function and aesthetics through minimally invasive, cost-effective treatments with a short duration. This case report presents a successful full-mouth rehabilitation of an 8-year-old female patient with generalized enamel hypoplasia, achieving both functional and aesthetic satisfaction.
