An in-depth exploration of plant-based medicine: healing potential and practical uses

International Journal of Advanced Chemistry Research · 2025 · Vol. 7(3) · pp. 09–16

Abstract

In prehistoric times, humans recognized medicinal and aromatic plants as significant sources of therapeutic benefits and utilized them as both food and medicine. Over time, ancestral knowledge regarding the crucial bioactive compounds within these plants developed, leading to their incorporation into early civilizations for the promotion of human health. Consequently, traditional medicine systems, relying heavily on medicinal and aromatic plants, became integral to maintaining the well-being of populations. Furthermore, empirical investigation through the extraction, gustatory evaluation, and testing of diverse plant materials expanded the pharmacopeia. Currently, a vast array of botanicals and their derived compounds are globally recognized and employed for their health-promoting properties. Considering their expanding applications, medicinal and aromatic plants are poised to play a critical role in future healthcare and wellness paradigms.
