Unravelling the power of redemption: A character analysis of Charles dickens’ a Christmas carol

Abstract

This article explores the power of redemption through the character analysis of Ebenezer Scrooge from A Christmas Carol written by Charles Dickens. Charles Dickens wrote A Christmas Carol during a time when British society was rediscovering old Christmas traditions, such as carols, and embracing new ones, like Christmas cards and trees. The novella reflects Dickens personal experiencing, including childhood memories and observations of societal inequalities. This study intends to analyze the characterization of our protagonist, Ebenezer Scrooge and it focuses on the transformation of a complex and dynamic figure through his journey of self-realization in order to treat others with kindness and respect. This study examines the ripple effect of change, illustrating the broader themes of interconnectedness in the novella.
