Optimization and evaluation of topical gel containing solid lipid nanoparticles loaded with fluconazole

Abstract

This study focuses on the optimization and evaluation of a topical gel formulation containing solid lipid nanoparticles (SLNs) loaded with Fluconazole for enhanced antifungal therapy. Fluconazole, a widely used antifungal agent, suffers from limitations such as poor skin penetration and reduced therapeutic efficacy when applied topically. To address these challenges, SLNs were utilized as a drug delivery system, offering advantages such as improved drug solubility, controlled release, and enhanced skin penetration. The formulation was optimized based on various factors, including particle size, drug loading efficiency, and the release profile of Fluconazole. The physicochemical properties of the gel, including viscosity, pH, spread ability, and stability, were thoroughly evaluated. Additionally, in vitro release studies and skin permeation tests were conducted, demonstrating that the SLN-loaded gel enhanced the drug's penetration and maintained a sustained release. Antifungal efficacy testing revealed superior activity compared to conventional Fluconazole gels. These findings suggest that SLN-based topical gels represent a promising approach for the effective local treatment of fungal infections.
