Vitamin d deficiency as a predictive value in coronary artery disease severity in females undergoing coronary angiography

Abstract

Background and aim: The cardiovascular system has vitamin D (Vit.D) receptors, and epidemiological investigations have documented a correlation between Vit.D status and the likelihood of developing Coronary artery disease (CAD).In this study, we aimed to detect the correlation between vitamin D deficiency and the severity of coronary artery (CAD) disease in postmenopausal women with chronic coronary syndrome using the SYNTAX score as a severity parameter of coronary artery disease. Study design: An observational, cross-sectional study. Place and duration of study: This study was conducted at the cardiology department at Benha University Hospital and the cardiology department at Misr International Hospital. Methodology: This study included 200 female patients with chronic coronary syndrome (CCS). Patients were divided into two groups: The first group consisted of female patients with CCS and normal Vit D level (31–100 ng/mL). The second group included female patients with CCS and Vit.D deficiency who were further subdivided according to the Vit.D deficiency level into (Vit. D severe deficiency group with Vit D level
