Soil-plant nexus: Correlation between yield of cashewnut and chemical properties of soil at flowering enhanced by silica and potash application

Abstract

In order to the correlation between yield of cashewnut and soil chemical properties, a field experiment was conducted in 2022-23 and 2023-24. A Factorial Randomized Block Design (FRBD) was used to set up the experiment, which had three replications and two factors with fifteen treatment combinations. The impact of applying silica and potash both foliarly and in the soil on the chemical properties of the soil and yield of cashewnut with var. Vengurla-4, was investigated. There was no noticeable variation in the chemical characteristics of the soil, such as its electrical conductivity or soil reaction. However, as a result of several treatment combinations, a positive correlation between yield of cashewnut at flowering with available nitrogen, phosphorus and silica was observed. The combined application of potash and silica creates an ideal environment for cashew tree productivity, leading to increased yields. By harnessing the benefits of potash and silica, farmers can enhance cashew tree productivity and increase yields, ultimately improving their livelihoods.
