Morphological and taxonomical descriptions of five species of coccinellidae (Ladybird beetles) (Insecta: Coleoptera) from agro-ecosystem of Himachal Pradesh

Abstract

The Coccinellidae family, widely known as ladybugs or ladybird beetles, plays an essential role in agricultural ecosystems by acting as natural predators of aphids and other pest insects. This paper provides an in-depth analysis of five Coccinellidae species found in Himachal Pradesh, India, focusing on their morphological traits and distribution. The identified species include Coccinella septempunctata, Coccinella transversalis, Oenopia kirbyi, Oenopia sexareata, and Megalocaria dilatata. Their presence in various habitats across the region underscores their role in preserving ecological stability, particularly in controlling pest populations.
