Morphological and molecular identification of Eimeria spp. of broilers in Central India

Abstract

Coccidiosis in poultry is an enteric and intracellular parasitic disease caused by different species of protozoan parasites of the genus Eimeria. Detection and diagnosis of Eimeria species infections are mostly made through microscopic examination of the fecal sample and molecular techniques. Morphometric identification is unreliable for differentiation between species. The main goal of the current study was to identify the species of Eimeria that are present in the Central India using morphometry and the conventional PCR. During present study different broiler farms from central India were screened for presence of coccidiosis infection and to identify the species of Eimeria responsible for coccidiosis in Central India.Based on results of the present study it was concluded that Eimeria tenella, Eimeria acervulina and Eimeria mitis, are predominantly found in Central India. To differentiate between species of Eimeria Conventional PCR is effective tool.
