Identification of virulence factors of E. coli causing diarrhoea in calves

Abstract

40 diarrhoeic calves between the age of 15 days to 1 month were selected for identification of virulence factor of E coli causing diarrhoea in calves. In this investigation, faecal samples of diarrhoeic calves were selected for identification of virulence factor by multiplex PCR. The virulence factors identified were Stx1 (4 out of 40, 10%), Intimin (3 out of 40, 7.5%), F41 (5 out of 40, 12.5%), K99 (8 out of 40, 20%), Sta (19 out of 40, 47.5%) and Stx2 (1 out of 40, 2.5%). Highest numbers of virulence factors positive were detected in19 diarrhoeic calves followed by K99. Similar findings were observed by (Giovanna I et al., 2012)
