Effect of various level of sulphur and zinc on growth and yield of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) in sandy loam of Sri Ganganagar district in Rajasthan

Abstract

A field experiment on “Effect of various level of Sulphur and Zinc on growth and yield of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.)” was conducted during Rabi season of 2023-24 at Crop Research Farm, Department of Agronomy, Tantia University, Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan (India). The experiment was laid out in Factorial Randomized Block Design (FRBD), with three replication comprised of three sulphur levels viz., S1: 15 kg S/ha, S2: 20 kg S/ha and S3: 25 kg S/ha and three zinc sulphate (21%) levels viz., Zn1: 20 kg ZnSO4/ha, Zn2: 25 kg ZnSO4/ha and Zn3: 30 kg ZnSO4/ha. The soil of the experimental field was sandy loam in texture; low in organic carbon (0.47%) and available nitrogen (212.15 kg/ha), medium in available phosphorus (17.38 kg/ha) and potassium (218.45 kg/ha); and neutral in reaction (7.31). The results revealed that, the significantly higher plant height at 60 and 90 DAS and at harvest; leaf length, number of leaves/plants, number of tillers/plants and leaf area index at 60 and 90 DAS were recorded with S3 and Zn3 treatment. Similarly, the significantly higher spike length, grains per spike, test weight, grain, straw and biological yield were recorded with S3 and Zn3 treatment. The significantly higher gross return recorded with S3 and Zn3 treatment. The significantly higher B:C ratio was recorded with of 20 kg S/ha (S2) and 25 kg ZnSO4/ha (Zn2) treatment.
