Incidental ileal AV malformation during open appendicectomy: A case report

Abstract

Ileal arteriovenous (AV) malformations are rare vascular anomalies that may present with significant gastrointestinal symptoms, including unexplained gastrointestinal bleeding. This case report describes a 17-year-old male who presented with right lower abdominal pain. Diagnostic imaging revealed an inflamed appendix, which was successfully managed with surgical resection along with resection of vascular malformation recognized at the site of meckels diverticulum while screening for the same. The aim of this report is to highlight the diagnostic challenges, treatment options, and outcomes of vascular malformation and abnormality encountered incidentally.
