Shiv-Parvati Marriage as Described in Shiv-Parinaya by Krishna Joo Razdan

Abstract

Krishna Joo Razdan’s account of Shiva’s marriage - Shiva Parinayah, contains a combination of most of its original story as given in Shiva Purana, Kashmiri Hindu marriage traditions, local Kashmiri musical instruments, common talk, opinions originating from public beliefs with intense Bhakti as its main undercurrent. Combining the bhakti and jnana together, his work delineates Trika philosophy in a simple lyrical style. In Trika, Bhakti is not without jnana and jnana is not without Bhakti. His spirituality was influenced and impacted by both Shaiva philosophy and bhakti tradition. He tries to invoke Shiva's grace by repeating His name through his writing Shiva-Parinay and this makes the text itself a symbolic of bhakti.
