An empirical analysis of positional accuracy and computational precision: A comparative study of modern Vedic astrology software

Abstract

This study evaluates the positional accuracy and computational precision of three modern Vedic astrology software programs: Parasharas Light, AstroSage and Jagannatha Hora, against the Rashtriya Panchang as the benchmark. The research identifies differences in critical astrological calculations such as the Ayanamsha, longitudes of the Navagrahas, Nakshatra Pada of the Navagrahas, time of sunrise, longitudes of the luminaries and the Nodes at the time of eclipses, ending time of Thithis, starting time of Ascendants, start of different Vimshottari Dashas and Bhuktis and the start of apparent planetary motion (retrograde vs. direct motion). The findings highlight the importance of checking astrological software prior to interpretation, and highlights areas for improvements in software, to align with the government benchmark.
