Indomethacin plus histamine induced duodenal ulceration in rats: Protective roles of powder and hydroalcoholic extract of pharmacopoeial formulation dawa-e-sahaj
Abstract
Dawa-e-Sahaj (DS), a traditional Unani remedy for stomach disorders, requires scientific validation for its efficacy. This study investigated the gastroprotective effects of DS in the form of its powder test drug (PTD) and hydroalcoholic extract (HAE) in Wistar rats with duodenal ulcers induced by indomethacin and histamine. Rats were pre-treated with PTD (616.66 mg/kg) and HAE (92.49 mg/kg) for seven days before ulcer induction. Gastric secretions and antioxidant markers were analyzed using GraphPad Prism 8.0.2. The results demonstrated that both PTD and HAE significantly reduced ulcer index, gastric volume, malondialdehyde, and myeloperoxidase levels (p
