Impact of running ABC drills training on coordination and speed among soccer players

Abstract

This study investigated the effect running ABC drills training on coordination and speed among soccer players. To achieve this, thirty school soccer players from Margoschis Higher Secondary School, Nazareth and St. Marks Higher Secondary School, Mukkuperi, Tamil Nadu, India, were selected as subjects. Their ages ranged from 16 to 19 years. The subjects were divided into two groups of fifteen (15) each. Group I underwent Running ABC Drills Training (RABCDT), while Group II served as the control group and did not participate in any additional training activities. The experimental group followed a structured training program for 12 weeks, alongside their regular curriculum activities. Coordination and speed were selected as the dependent variables for this study. Coordination was assessed using the juggling test, while speed was measured through the 50 meter run test. Since the groups were not paired in any specific manner, Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA) was applied to eliminate variations in pre-test mean values. Statistical analysis was conducted using SPSS, with significance set at the 0.05 level. The results of the study indicated that the Running ABC Drills Training group demonstrated significant improvements in coordination and speed compared to the control group.
