Abstract

Ulcerative colitis is an inflammatory chronic disease affecting the mucosa and sub mucosa of the colon and rectum. Treatment relies on synthetic drugs like amino salicylates, which reduce stomach acid secretion, protect mucous tissues, or eliminate Helicobacter pylori. However, these treatments often result in relapses and adverse reactions. The main concern of this article is to introduce a safe drug of natural origin for managing gastric ulcers without side effects. A search has been launched to identify new anti-ulcer therapies from natural sources, including herbs, medicinal plants, spices, vegetables, and crude drug substances. A large number of medicinal plants and their secondary metabolites have been reported with potential anti-ulcer activities, and treatment with natural products produces promising results and fewer side effects. The goal is to collect the published articles on the topic. In conclusion, the main concern of this article is to introduce a safe drug of natural origin for managing gastric ulcers without side effects. By examining the potential of medicinal plants and their secondary metabolites, researchers can develop more effective and safe treatments for this inflammatory chronic disease.
