Seasonal dynamics of magnesium levels in soil, fodder, feed, and blood serum in Satara district of Maharashtra

Abstract

This study aimed to assess the magnesium content in soil, feed, fodder, and serum in the Satara district of Maharashtra across different seasons. The mineral content of samples was evaluated using atomic absorption spectrophotometry (AAS). Results indicated that the overall mean levels of magnesium in soil samples during all seasons were above the critical thresholds. However, significant differences were observed in soil magnesium levels during the rainy season in the Wai tehsil compared to the Man, Satara, and Karad tehsils during winter and summer. In feed samples, magnesium levels across all seasons also exceeded critical values, with notable differences in Satara tehsil during winter when compared to Man, Wai, and Karad tehsils in the rainy and summer seasons. Similarly, mean magnesium levels in fodder samples remained above critical values, but significant differences were identified during the winter season in Man and Satara compared to Wai and Karad tehsils in summer and rainy seasons. Lastly, the mean magnesium levels in serum samples were consistently above critical values, with significant differences found during winter in Man and Karad compared to Wai and Satara during summer and rainy seasons. Overall, these findings highlighted regional variations in magnesium levels across different agricultural components in the Satara district of Maharashtra.
