Coping level for problems faced by guardians of disabled children: Their associated factors

Abstract

Constantly changing cognitive and behavioral efforts to deal with specific external and internal demands that are perceived as taxing or exceeding one resource called coping. Parents dealing with the child’s illness give them the opportunity to deal with everyday issues and ensure proper care of the child. The present study is planned to assess the coping strategies for problems faced by guardians of disabled children and their associated factors. Only ten respondents were randomly selected from Arunodaya school of Jhansi City. A self-structure questionnaire was provided to the guardians of these selected respondents. Questionnaire was explained by the researcher and parents were requested to fill each entry carefully. After collection of filled questionnaire, data was analyzed. The findings showed that respondents in both categories i.e. Deaf & Dumb and Mentally Retarded were equally distributed. The majority of parents were in the 25–40 age range and respondents who were chosen were men. The majority of parents completed their matriculation. The majority of the parents were employed and made less than Rs. 50,000. The maximum respondent’s birth order was ranked second. The majority of the respondent’s siblings who had comparable issues were numbered two and three. Ninety percent of the respondent’s problems had been identified prior to a year. Data further avowed that hundred percent respondent’s had shown somewhat acceptance level. Data unveiled that no association was visible with any independent variables.
