Antimicrobial properties of mulberry (Morus sps.) against pathogenic bacteria and fungi review paper
Abstract
Mulberry (Morus sps.), a widely cultivated plant, is known for its medicinal properties, including antimicrobial activity. This review consolidates research on the antibacterial and antifungal properties of different parts of the mulberry plant, including its leaves, fruits, and roots. Active compounds such as flavonoids, alkaloids, and terpenoids have been identified as key contributors to its antimicrobial effects. Studies have shown its potential against a wide range of pathogenic bacteria (e.g., Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus) and fungi (e.g., Candida spp., Aspergillus spp.), suggesting that mulberry could be a valuable natural alternative to conventional antibiotics and antifungals. Further research is needed to optimize its application in clinical settings.
