Effects of induced mutation on frequency and spectrum of chlorophyll in sorghum [Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench]

Abstract

The frequency and range of chlorophyll mutations in M2 generation of kharif sorghum PVK-801 caused by physical (gamma rays) and gamma rays combined with chemical mutagens EMS. The experimental material included dry and wet control treatments grown using a randomise block design, as well as various mutagenic treatments treated with various combinations, namely 10 kR, 20 kR, 30 kR, 40 kR, 10 kR + 0.2% EMS, 20 kR + 0.2% EMS, 30 kR + 0.2% EMS, and 40 kR + 0.2% EMS. The current study demonstrated the induction of a wide range of chlorophyll mutations, including albino, xantha, chlorina, xanthav/iridis and viridis. It was discovered that Viridis predominated among these. Nevertheless, it was discovered that combination treatments (20 kR + 0.2% EMS) were more successful than other treatments at causing chlorophyll mutations.
