Stress distribution analysis around circular holes in metallic plates using finite element method (FEM) in abaqus

International Journal of Mechanics of Solids · 2024 · Vol. 5(2) · pp. 33–35

Abstract

This paper reviews the methodologies and findings associated with stress distribution analysis around circular holes in metallic plates using the Finite Element Method (FEM) in Abaqus. Circular holes in structural components are critical stress concentrators that significantly affect their mechanical behavior under various loading conditions. This review emphasizes the simulation techniques, boundary conditions, material properties, and mesh optimization strategies adopted in Abaqus to ensure accurate results. Key applications in aerospace, automotive, and mechanical engineering are discussed, alongside the challenges and advancements in FEM modeling for stress concentration studies.
