Role of farmer producer organizations in promoting women empowerment in agriculture

Abstract

Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) play an increasingly critical role in the agricultural landscape of India and other developing nations by enhancing the socio-economic conditions of farmers, particularly women. This article explores how FPOs contribute to promoting women’s empowerment in agriculture through improved access to resources, market linkages, capacity building and social inclusion. By examining their functions, challenges and impact on rural women, the paper emphasizes how FPOs serve as vehicles for transforming agricultural economies while fostering gender equality.
