Prisoner’s health in Jail: A review

Abstract

The number of inmates is growing, and there are significant health issues among them. Punishment, correction, and community rehabilitation are the main objectives of prison design, and these objectives may clash with those of health care. According to a review of the literature, communicable diseases, substance misuse, and mental health are the primary problems with jail health treatment. The needs of older and female inmates differ from those of other inmates. The desired goals of prison health care include health promotion and the health of the community outside of prisons. Collaboration between jail and health services is essential to provide inmates with quality medical care, and telemedicine is one potential delivery method.
