Evaluating the safety and side effect profiles of Nefopam-diclofenac-paracetamol vs. Pentazocine-diclofenac-paracetamol in post-caesarean Analgesia: A randomized double-blind study

Abstract

Background: Effective pain management post-caesarean section is crucial for patient recovery. This study compares the side effects of intramuscular Nefopam-Diclofenac-Paracetamol versus Pentazocine-Diclofenac-Paracetamol combinations. Methods: A prospective, randomized, double-blind trial was conducted at the University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital, Ondo City, Nigeria, from June to October 2022. A total of 140 patients undergoing elective or emergency Caesarean sections were randomized into two groups: Group A (Nefopam 20 mg) and Group B (Pentazocine 30 mg), both receiving IV paracetamol 1 g and IM diclofenac 75 mg. Side effects such as nausea, vomiting, and dizziness were recorded over 24 hours. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 22, with significance set at p
