Improved production, economics and adaptation of integrated crop management in Bengal gram as influenced by cluster front line demonstrations in northern agroclimatic zone of Telangana

Abstract

In India, the daily net availability of pulses per person is still quite low, averaging between 42 and 47 grams. It is essentially at a standstill with minor rise in the last few years. In current scenario increasing the area of productivity and production pulses is need of the hour in our country. Among the all pulses Bengal gram plays an important role and accounting for over 49% of all pulses produced in India. Aim with increasing the are and productivity of bengal gram in Northern Telangana Zone the present study was carried out by KVK, Ramagirikhilla, Kharimnagar-II, ATARI, Zone-X throughout 2018 to 2022 in the Rabi season with two hundred cluster frontline demonstrations at Peddapalli district of Telangana. The critical inputs were identified in new production technology and distributed to the farmers on need basis. The experiments' results demonstrated that by using improved production technology provided by KVK, Ramagirikhilla, farmers had greatly increased Bengal gram productivity. In comparison to the farmers' practices (15.12 q/ha), the improved Bengal gram varieties NBeG-3 and NBeG-49 yielded more (18.06 q/ha) with an extension gap of 2.94 q/ha, a technology gap of 1.94 q/ha, and a Technological Index of 9.69%. According to the current study, the demonstration yield increased by 19.98% as compared to farmer practices. With an improvement of 37.11% better net returns and a rise of Rs. 13,760.00 above farmers' practices, the mean benefit cost ratio in the demonstrations was 3.13, compared to farmers' practices (2.45). The results indicated that the CFLD technique was both agronomically feasible and economically viable for the cultivation of Bengal gram in Northern Telangana Zone.
