A review on biological activities and medicinal properties of Swietenia mahagoni

Abstract
Swietenia mahagoni is one of the most important value added timber yielding tree species brought to the India by British. These plants were first introduced as seedlings from Jamaica into the Botanic Gardens at Calcutta. Along with its timber importance it has great medicinal properties. This species was widely used in Indian system of traditional medicine for curing various ailments. In the present review its traditional importance, phytochemistry and studies regarding scientific validation of its traditional uses were presented in order.
