Cybersecurity challenges and solutions

Abstract

It studies Iraq's cybersecurity posture in depth and, specifically, the critical infrastructure sectors such as energy, telecommunications, healthcare. Iraq has an expanding digital landscape and increasing strategic importance, which makes the country unique in terms of its cybersecurity challenges: a shortage of skilled personnel, which is not supplemented by significant investment, and insufficient regulatory frameworks. Through a comparative analysis approach this study compares Iraq’s cybersecurity readiness relative to benchmarks set in standards such as ISO 27001 and the NIST Cybersecurity Framework. The research findings indicate that Iraq’s cybersecurity readiness, workforce capacity and policy compliance are not prepared on the condition found. Incident response times were below average, workforce training was minimal, safety guidelines were not fully adhered to international cybersecurity standards. The results of this study recommend the increased investment, comprehensive training programs, as well as the strategic alignment of Iraq’s cybersecurity resilience with global standard. These are necessary steps to protect Iraq’s critical infrastructure, and sensitive data and to inspire its public’s trust in its digital ecosystem.
