A study on prevalence of morbidity and mortality due to different diseases in Assam hill goat in Assam agricultural university: Goat research station, Burnihat, Kamrup (m), Assam, India

Abstract

Small ruminants play a vital part in livestock farming in the North Eastern region, and among several restraints in goat farming, illnesses and kid mortality have been considered to be the predominant constraint of economic relevance, therefore proper health management is of paramount importance. A study was conducted to explore various causes of goat mortality in Goat research station, Burnihat, Kamrup Metro, Assam, India. A total of 110 Assam hill goats (AHG) were considered for the study and the primary data on various causes of diseases and mortality of goats were collected through routine clinical examination, blood and fecal examination, post mortem examination. The overall morbidity rate and overall mortality rate was found to be 68.18% and 21.81% respectively. Age wise highest morbidity and mortality found in 0-3 months of aged group. Diseases like pneumonia and endoparasitic infestation were observed to be the major contributors to the mortality in goats.
