Synergism of Neem and Pongamia as a new trend in biopesticides

Abstract

Recent developments in the field of botanical pesticides offer promising alternatives to chemical pesticides, presenting potential benefits for human health and the environment. Numerous botanical pesticides have been identified and formulated for various applications, and their positive effects are increasingly recognized by agricultural professionals. Neem, in particular, stands out as a leading botanical pesticide and is widely used for its effectiveness. Additionally, Pongamia pinnata, which contains the active compound karanjin, has gained recognition as another valuable botanical pesticide. Research suggests that combining neem and Pongamia could produce a synergistic effect, enhancing their individual efficacy and benefits. While the insecticidal properties of both neem and Pongamia are well-documented, there is limited information available regarding the synergistic effects of their combination. This paper aims to review the synergism between neem and Pongamia as bioinsecticides, highlighting their potential for improved pest management in agriculture.
