Food safety and hygiene awareness among ICDS supervisors: A comparative study using surveys and direct observations

Abstract

Food safety is crucial in India's Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) program, which provides nutrition to young children and mothers. This study investigates the knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) of ICDS supervisors regarding food safety and hygiene. It aims to bridge the gap in understanding their role in ensuring safe food handling and distribution at Anganwadi Centers (AWCs). By comparing self-reported data with direct observations, the study will identify discrepancies between awareness and actual practices. The findings will inform policymakers and program administrators to improve food safety training, resource allocation, and monitoring mechanisms within the ICDS program, ultimately contributing to better child health outcomes.
