A simple approach to fracture toughness with small specimens using the TSM model

Abstract

Fracture toughness is a critical parameter in evaluating the integrity of materials under stress. While traditional methods require large specimens for testing, the use of small specimens has gained attention due to limitations in material availability and the need for efficient testing. This paper presents a simple and effective approach for estimating fracture toughness using small specimens based on the Two-Stage Model (TSM). The methodology provides accurate results while minimizing the specimen size, making it suitable for advanced material testing in industries such as aerospace and manufacturing. The study demonstrates the advantages of the TSM model, outlining its application, procedure, and performance through experimental validation.
