Abstract

Carbon budgeting has emerged as a critical component of agricultural sustainability in the context of global climate change. Vegetable crops, being a significant part of global food systems, hold immense potential to influence carbon dynamics due to their unique growth patterns, cultivation practices, and metabolic processes. This article provides a comprehensive review of carbon budgeting in vegetable crops, highlighting its importance, underlying mechanisms, influencing factors, and strategies for optimization. We explore the role of carbon sequestration, emissions, and carbon use efficiency in vegetable cropping systems while examining innovative practices and technologies that can enhance sustainability.
