Comparative morpho-physiological study of Heat stress tolerance on wheat varieties

Abstract

Among the all environment stress heat is one of the major abiotic stress. In wheat crop higher temperature is major issue which affect increasing global warming. Heat stress affect negatively on wheat like morho-physiological parameters. In this study, there are taken various morpho-physiological aspects for six wheat varieties DBW90, DBW173, PBW752, PBW757, HD 3226, HD 3298. The physiological constraint as Relative water content declined under high temperature (37ºC). The result revealed highly significant positive and negative relationships among the varieties for all the characters studied under heat stress. The thousand grain weight of the wheat varieties DBW 90 has a significant and positive impact with plant height (82cm), spike length (7.4cm), No. of spiklets per spike (65), and thousand grain weight (38.60 gm). These traits also have a positively corelate on the yield of grains. Wheat varieties with maximum height and higher no. of spike should be promoted in breeding programs to rise the yield of grains in wheat on heat stress environment conditions.
