Bridging the knowledge gap: Iron deficiency anemia in classical and modern medicine

Abstract

By contrasting contemporary treatment methods with traditional medical knowledge, such as Ayurveda's notion of Pandu roga, this paper aims to emphasize the ethnopharmacological importance of iron deficiency anemia. It seeks to identify potential synergies and new treatment routes for the management of this common condition by integrating traditional and modern approaches. Aim of study: By combining conventional with modern medical perspectives, this review seeks to provide an in-depth comprehension of iron deficiency anemia. Understanding many kinds of anemia is integrated, along with the Ayurvedic notion of Pandu roga, their origin, pathophysiology, and methods of treatment that combine conventional medication with Ayurvedic formulations. Objectives: This review aims to compare therapeutic approaches from ancient and modern medicine, explore the Ayurvedic idea of Pandu roga, analyse different forms of anemia in detail, and emphasize the importance of ethnopharmacology in treating iron deficiency anemia. Methodology: In order to compile pertinent research on anemia kinds, Ayurvedic viewpoints, and treatment modalities, the methodology of this review entails a thorough literature search across traditional and contemporary medical sources. The report purposes to investigate the similarities, differences, and probable collaborations between traditional and conventional treatments for iron deficiency anemia using data synthesis and comparative analysis.
