Dynamic Voltage Scaling (DVS)-enabled ultra-low power microcircuits for sustainable IoT edge sensors

International Journal of Electronics and Microcircuits · 2024 · Vol. 4(2) · pp. 28–31

Abstract

The proliferation of Internet of Things (IoT) edge sensors has revolutionized data collection and real-time decision-making across industries such as healthcare, agriculture, and smart cities. However, the sustainability and efficiency of these devices are limited by their power consumption and battery lifespan. This study presents a Dynamic Voltage Scaling (DVS)-enabled ultra-low-power microcircuit architecture specifically designed for IoT edge sensors. The proposed design dynamically adjusts the voltage and frequency based on real-time workload requirements, minimizing power consumption without compromising performance. Key aspects of the study include sub-threshold circuit design, energy harvesting integration, and AI-driven power management algorithms. Extensive simulations and prototype validations were performed using ANSYS Electronics Suite, MATLAB, and Cadence EDA tools. Results demonstrate a 40% reduction in power consumption and a 30% increase in battery life, making these microcircuits highly suitable for sustainable IoT applications.
