Assessment of In vitro antidiabetic activity by using Arctium Minus leaves extract

Abstract

One of the most common metabolic diseases, diabetes mellitus type 2, is typified by high blood sugar levels caused by either reduced insulin action, decreased insulin synthesis, or both. One of the rarest metabolic diseases is type 1 diabetes. The most common application of metformin is to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus; however, patients have a poor and delayed therapeutic response because of its sluggish mode of action and serious side effects. Quercetin was shown to be the most potent antidiabetic component in the ethanolic extract of Arctium minus, whereas kaempferol was found to be another potent antidiabetic component. The ethanolic extract of Arctium minus, which demonstrated α-amylase inhibitory activity by in vitro and components analysis by LCMS techniques, was tested for in vivo anti-diabetic screening in order to corroborate the aforesaid mechanism of action33. In the end, blood glucose levels decreased statistically significantly when Arctium minus ethanolic extract was used. Thus, Arctium minus ethanolic extract exhibited antidiabetic properties.
