To study biomarkers for basal cells in immunohistochemistry for the diagnosis of benign and malignant prostate tumours

Abstract

Background and Objectives: Prostatic lesions encompass a wide spectrum of pathological entities ranging from benign conditions, such as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), to malignant forms, including prostate adenocarcinoma. This study aims to evaluate the diagnostic utility of IHC using basal cell markers in distinguishing benign from malignant prostatic lesions. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study looked at 30 cases of prostatic tumours that were sent in from the Department of Pathology, I-CARE Institute of Medical Sciences, Haldia, West Bengal, India. This study was conducted from the April 2017 to March 2018. All kinds of prostate samples were looked at, such as TURP and TRUCUT biopsies. All of the parts of each prostate specimen were examined physically in great depth. Results: Testing how sensitive and specific 34βE12 and p63 are in prostate lesions, as well as looking at how p63 and high molecular weight cytokeratin are expressed in different prostate lesions. A cross-sectional study was done by our company on 30 cases of prostatic tumours. The results showed that p63 is better than HMWCK at finding basal cells in difficult diagnostic situations. Conclusions: From this study it can be concluded that study examined 30 cases of prostatic lesions, focussing on histological investigation and the diagnostic significance of immunohistochemical markers.
