Abstract
Assessing impact of Front-Line Demonstrations and Vocational training programs organised by KVK (assessment year-2013-14) as a mandate leading to empowerment of farming community. Since KVKs are conducting Front Line Demonstrations and many training programs every year under various disciplines for different clientele like Practicing farmers and farm women, Rural youth and Extension functionaries. Present study is based on the activities like Front Line Demonstrations on various crops (Table-1) and many training programs (skill oriented) undertaken by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Barh, Patna for the empowerment of farming community. Krishi Vigyan Kendra organised skill-oriented training at KVK campus on Mushroom Production, vermin-compost production, Beekeeping and Integrated Farming System. On the basis of above results it can be concluded that different crop viz. Paddy (Rajendra sweta, Sabour Surbhit, Pusa 1176, Bhagalpur Katarni), Elephant Yam (Gajendra), Turmeric (Rajendra Sonia), Castor (GCH 7), Fennel (G Fennel), Raddish (K. Sweta), Brinjal (PH 6), Rai (Rajendra Suflam), Lentil (Arun, KLS 218, Noorie and PL 406), Gram (BG 372, Pusa 256 and PG 186) and Wheat (K307, HD 2824, HD 2733, HD 2985, HW 2045, HI 1544 and HI 1563) demonstrated under Front Line Demonstration by KVK, Barh, Patna was found to be more productive and economically viable than the existing local crop varieties in this particular agro climatic situation. Thus the varieties demonstrated have the potential to replace the existing low yielding locally grown crop varieties need to be popularised among the farmers of the district through organising training programmes and with the help of state agricultural extension functionaries. It is evident from the study that the trainees who attended the training programme on vermicompost production technique, Integrated Farming System, Bee Keeping and Mushroom Production gained sufficient technical know-how in all the practices of the training programmes. Organisation of such training programme has been found quite effective in improving competency level of the participant. Trainees themselves realised the importance of training to be organised regularly wherein one gets the opportunity for updating technical know-how.
