Biochemical changes in collar rot infected groundnut genotypes showing different level of resistance

Abstract

Groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L.) is the most important legume and oil seed crop grown in Gujarat and other parts of the country. In India, groundnut occupies first position in terms of area and second in terms of production among oilseed crops. Gujarat stands first position in terms of area and production in the country. Total phenols contents were higher in diseased leaves as compared to healthy. Maximum increase in phenol content noticed in susceptible genotype. The soluble protein content was significantly decreased in diseased leaves of all the treatments. Decrease in soluble protein was observed higher in JVB 2607 genotype than others. Similarly, reduction in the contents of total sugars, reducing and non-reducing sugars were observed in diseased leaves of all the treatments compared to healthy leaves. Maximum reductions in total, reducing and non-reducing sugars were observed in GG 20.
