Genetic variability studies in sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L. (Moench))

Abstract

The present study entitled “Genetic Variability Studies In Sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L. (Moench))” was carried out during rabi 2023-24 at Sorghum Research Unit, Dr. PDKV, Akola. The study was undertaken on Fourty genotypes of sorghum along with one check using Randomized Block Design with three replications. The observations were recorded on thirteen quantitative traits. Analysis of variances indicated significant differences among the genotypes for all the traits under study. The phenotypic coefficient of variation (PCV) was higher than genotypic coefficient of variation (GCV). The high values of GCV and PCV were observed for panicle weight. All the characters studied exhibited high heritability except for the number of leaves exhibited moderate heritability. High estimate of heritability coupled with high genetic advance as percent of mean was observed for six characters which may attribute to the preponderance of additive gene action and possessed high selective value.
