Abstract

The present investigation on “Effect of growing methodson seed yield and quality in tomato Var. GAT 5” was carried out during kharif 2021 and 2022 at Main Vegetable Research Station, AAU, Anand and Department of Seed Science and Technology, B. A. College of Agriculture, Anand Agricultural University, Anand. The experiment was conducted to study the effect of growing methods on plant growth, seed yield and quality in tomato at Main Vegetable Research Station, AAU, Anand and Department of Seed Science and Technology, BACA, AAU, Anand. Tomato crop was cultivated with two different methods i.e., trailing and traditional at MVRS field in seven replications with CRD design. Trailing methods showed significant higher and positive response in both the individual years. In pooled analysis 1000 seed weight (3.17 g) and seed yield (14.56 g) per plant found significant, while other parameters were found non-significant. The significantly higher mature fruits per plant (42.14 and 46.43), fruit yield (kg) per plant at red ripened stage (2.07 and 2.15), pulp to seed ratio (%) (0.89 and 0.85), number of seeds per fruit (100.51 and 105.89), 1000 seeds weight (g) (3.04 and 3.29) and seed yield (g) per plant (12.90 and 16.22) were recorded during kharif season 2020-21 and 2021-22 respectively. While seed quality attributing characters like seed germination (%) (95.36 and 97.07), seedling length (cm) (10.43 and 10.68), seedling dry weight (mg) (12.00 and 13.26), SVI-I (995 and 1037) and SVI-II (1145 and 1288) for the year 2020-21 and 2021-22 respectively.
