Functional and radiological outcome of dorsal plating to distal end radius fractures

Abstract

Given the challenges of treatment and the potential outcomes, comminuted distal end radius fractures with intra-articular accompanied by dorsal displacement, dorsal tilt, or dorsal distraction are extremely frightening injuries. Treatment decisions can be challenging and could cause loss of range of motion and the development of CRPS. If not properly addressed. These kinds of fractures are troublesome to reduce completely anatomically; instead, external fixation, internal volar, and dorsal plating are used, among which dorsal plating is somewhat effective technique. Aim: To study the functional and radiological outcome of dorsal plating in comminuted intra-articular distal end of radius fractures characteristics by dorsal displacement, dorsal tilt or dorsal distraction. Materials and Methods: Twenty patients with distal end radius fractures and had dorsal plating were chosen for a single research, and they were followed up for a year. Sarmiento score was utilised for radiological assessment and Green O'Brien score was utilised for functional assessment. Results: In a one-year follow-up, 20 patients-15 men and 5 women-with a mean age of 50+/-10 demonstrated that functional scoring with the Green O'Brien score produced findings that were more than 80% of the results were good to excellent, while radiological evaluation using the Sarmiento scoring produced outcomes that were 95% good. Conclusion: The open reduction internal fixation with dorsal plating produces good to excellent radiographic and functional results with minimal complications. Functional capacity is consistently restored with dorsal approach to the distal end radius. The incidence of problems can be decreased by using low-profile locking plates.
