The effects of Ashvagandha Avaleha on nutritional deficiency and muscle wasting in Kaarshya patients
Abstract
Introduction: Kaarshya, an Ayurvedic condition similar to malnutrition and muscle wasting, poses significant health risks due to nutritional deficiencies. This study explores the efficacy of Ashvagandha Avaleha, a traditional Ayurvedic formulation, in improving nutritional status and reversing muscle wasting in Kaarshya patients. Methods: A randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trial was conducted with 60 patients diagnosed with Kaarshya. The intervention group received Ashvagandha Avaleha (15g twice daily), while the control group received a placebo. The primary outcomes were changes in body mass index (BMI), serum albumin levels, and muscle mass. Secondary outcomes included improvements in grip strength and hemoglobin levels.
