Biochemical signaling of pearl millet resistance against major insect pest

Abstract

The experiment was carried out at Agronomy Instructional Farm, C. P. College of Agriculture, S. D. Agricultural University, Sardarkrushinagar to evaluate the biochemical attributes of pearl millet’s genotypes against the major insect pests i.e. shoot fly, stem borer and earhead worm. Out of twenty two genotypes, genotype 16635 R expressed resistant reaction against all major insect pests while genotypes, GP 10, J 2557 and 257 SB 20 expressed susceptible reaction against shoot fly, stem borer and earhead worm, respectively. The correlation analysis between biochemical parameters and insect pests incidence revealed that moisture content from leaves and earhead of pearl millet genotypes exhibited highly significant and positive correlation with stem borer incidence. Nitrogen and protein from earhead of pearl millet genotypes exhibited significant and positive relation with earhead worm. The phenol content found negatively correlated while TSS content was positively correlated with all major three insect pests.
