The soundscape of war in Patience Stone
International Journal of Research in English · 2024 · Vol. 6(2) · pp. 454–457
Abstract
This paper examines the narrative strategies of the novel Patience Stone, which recreates war scenes using sounds. It investigates the experience of war through auditory details in the narration. The focus of the paper is soundscape rather than landscape. Landscape invests in visual sensory images, whereas soundscape draws upon sounds to delineate war. Monologues, the Doppler effect, and soundmarks are some of the strategies that the novel explores.
