Case review: Clinical management of Canine Atopic Dermatitis (CAD)

Abstract

CAD can be seen as clinical sign and not disease because there are many underlying causes such as diet, prior immunosuppression and exposure to allergens, seasonality, the resultant cause of which is manifested as pruritis without lesions and followed by lesions that can be erythematous patches further leading to sore and then oozing of pus from sore. Here in the present case the dog has been exposed to environmental allergens which led to similar manifestation as mentioned above and then lesions establishment on specific regions of body. The alopecia and otitis externa also some of accessory signs present in present case. The Pathophysiology of CAD revolves around A) Abnormality of epidermal structure and function and cutaneous inflammation and exaggerated immune respose from body to counter the environmental allergens. Since there is no definite test for diagnosis of CAD, the present clinical signs were weighed and tested for mite infestation and flea allergic dermatitis. After ruling out every other possible cause, the exhibited signs were assessed on favrot’s clinical criteria sets, wherein criteria and other signs were specifically indicating CAD. After arriving at sdiagnosis, the specific treatment was initiated. The animal showed gradual recovery after 1 month and complete recovery in 20 days in addition to prior 1 month period.
