Qualitative assessment of pectin recovered from acid lime peel
Abstract
Investigation entitled “Qualitative Assessment of Pectin Recovered from Acid Lime Peel” was carried out at Post-harvest technology and Analytical laboratory, Department of Fruit Science, Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth, Akola during 2021-22. The primary objective of conducting this research was to assess the recovery, as well as, qualitative aspect of recovered pectin from acid lime Cv. PDKV Lime fruit peel. Pectin was extracted from dried peel powder of acid lime fruits by employing hydrochloric acid (HCl 0.01 N) as reagent medium in distilled water, where, pH was maintained at 1.5. Optimum extraction conditions with extraction time of 80 minutes and an extraction temperature of 50 °C was maintained. Recovery of 35.57 percent pectin was obtained and was furthered with qualitative analysis, which, resulted in acquiring dark cream colour, alongside having good solubility in hot water and hot alkai solution (NaOH solution), as well as, in cold water and cold alkali solution. These findings indicate that pectin recovered from dried peel powder of acid lime fruits have favourable qualitative aspect and is a potent source for various applications.
